I was contacting by a buddy from college the other day that I haven't talked to in a looong time and he brought up a short I worked while I was in school. It was called Half Pint Heroes, and it was in the spirit of an old school animated serial. It followed the adventures of 2 child heroes and galactic protectors of Earth, Billy Dynamo and Suzy Stardust. It was developed by me and a group of friends at Columbia college in '98, '99 I believe as a 2D short, but it was waaaay too ambitious for us (I think it clocked in around 15 minutes!). While I was working part time at Big Idea, a co-worker and good buddy of mine, Aaron Hartline convinced me to cut down the piece and pursue it as a 3D short. After some resistance, I did. I completed it with the help of Aaron, and some more Big Idea buddies, Mike Laubach, and Daniel O'brien (who did the great cell shading that I think holds up the best from this piece.) We spent many a long night after hours working in Softimage but we completed it. It was no mein feat and it considering half of us didn't really know what we were doing it didn't turn out too bad. A part of me cringes when I watch it now, but I can't help but be impressed that it got done at all. I'd love to see what could be done now with the skills we've garnered over the years. Enough yaking about it, check it out.
Sorry about the crappy compression it was the only copy I could find.
